The twelfth stage of the 2020 Tour de France passed through Montmorillon, Simon Pagenaud’s hometown, on September 10, 2020. To celebrate this event, Pagenaud joined the city’s festivities by displaying one of his bright yellow single-seater formula cars.

A big cycling enthusiast, Pagenaud follows the Tour de France closely every year from his home in the United States. Thus it was a very special day for the IndyCar driver. When the riders crossed Montmorillon, they could see Pagenaud’s yellow single-seater on display on the Tour route.

Simon Pagenaud: “The Tour de France is such a popular global sporting event that shows the wonderful qualities of our country through an incredible sport. Being in the United States, I am proud to see France from its best angles from thousands of miles away! The city of Montmorillon wanted to do everything possible to celebrate its unique qualities. I wanted to join the city of Montmorillon to celebrate cycling and thank the organization of the Tour de France by exhibiting the car in my colors in homage of our victory at the Indianapolis 500. »

Last year, during his visit to France to celebrate his Indy 500 victory with the French public, Pagenaud met with Marc Madiot, General Manager of the Groupama-FDJ team, at a luncheon. Madiot relived the victory of the French driver at the Indy 500 with lots of emotion. They were able to discuss the intensity in their two sports, discovering many commonalities. Cycling is also an integral part of Pagenaud’s daily physical training for driving in the IndyCar Series.
